57th Annual Meeting
“Rebuilding the Injured Lung”
June 4-7, 2014
The Gant Conference Center
The theme of the Thomas L. Petty Aspen Lung Conference, 57th Annual Meeting is “Rebuilding the Injury Lung”, David Riches, Ph.D., Chair and Ellen Burnham, M.D., Marc Moss M.D., Gregory Downey, M.D. and Eric Schmidt, M.D., Co-Chairs. With an emphasis on the integration of basic, translational and clinical sciences, the meeting will focus on the central question how knowledge of the mechanisms of acute and chronic alveolar epithelial injury can be translated into specific approaches to reconstitute and rebuild the injured lung. Anchored by twelve State of the Art Presentations from thought leaders in their respective fields, the conference will specifically focus on: (i) the mechanisms of acute and progressive lung injury and fibrosis, (ii) conceptual issues centering around the complex interactions between epithelial cells, mesenchymal cells and the extracellular connective tissue matrix, (iii) harnessing contemporary understanding of matrix scaffolds and stem cell biology to therapeutically repair and rebuild the injured lung, and (iv) strategic approaches to assessing and improving therapy. The conference summary will be presented by Thomas R. Martin, M.D., Global Head, Clinical Sciences Unit, Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation.
